Councillors in Uttlesford have voted unanimously to set up a working group to manage it’s response to the refugee crisis.
The cross party group will work alongside other agencies and community organisations to work out the best way to house refugees, and secure them access to education, health care and other vital services.
It will be chaired by Councillor Julie Redfern who will regularly report back to the Council’s cabinet for the duration of the crisis.
Councillor Howard Rolfe, the Leader of the Council, said: “Uttlesford is a caring and compassionate community and we want to do what we can to support the Government initiative. The working group has been set up to co-ordinate the Council s response and to help deliver solutions.”
The government has said Britain will take in 20,000 refugees over the next five years.
