Action is underway today to have Travellers evicted from two unauthorised sites in Clacton.
Six caravans on the Knox Road Playing Field have been visited by the Essex Countywide Traveller Unit (ECTU), and a Court Order was served on them today.
They now have 24 hours to leave the unauthorised encampment and if they fail to comply with the order they will be in breach.
ECTU, on behalf of Tendring District Council (TDC), will then be sending in bailiffs to evict them from the land which it owns.
The unit will also be visiting 11 caravans which have set up at Vista Road Playing Fields – also owned by TDC – and taking details from them.
The unit will then return tomorrow to serve a Direction to Leave on the group to start action at that particular site.
Paul Honeywood, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said that the Council is using whatever powers it has available to it to remove the Travellers as quickly as it possibly can.
“We fully understand residents’ concerns and we are working with the ECTU and following the laid down procedures that need to be taken if we are to be successful through the courts,” he added.
TDC has already been dealing with removing Travellers from Martello Coach Park in Clacton; the Columbine Centre in Walton; Brighton Road in Holland-on-Sea and The Naze at Walton over the past week or so.
