British Transport Police say a report of a knifepoint robbery was the reason for the chaos experienced by Essex rail commuters last night.
Fenchurch Street station was evacuated as police searched for the suspect.
They were investigating allegations of a robbery on a train that had travelled into the capital from from Southend Central.
BTP has given Radio Essex this statement:
“The call came into police at 6.37pm.
“Officers attended the scene and carried a full search of the train, which had been traveling from Southend Central station.
“Fenchurch Street station was evacuated while the search was carried out. No one matching the report was found.
“The investigation into the incident continues and anyone with any information should contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016 citing 466 of 02/08/16.”
