A man who killed his mother has been made the subject of a hospital order.
Javid Ahmed attacked Amina Begum in Fambridge Close, Maldon, on Thursday March 24.
Mrs Begum, 47, of Fambridge Close, sadly died at the scene.
A post mortem examination established she had suffered 37 separate knife wounds including a fatal injury to her heart. Ahmed, 26, a student, of Fambridge Close, was arrested at the family home and charged with murder.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday August 24. The prosecution accepted the plea and he returned to court for sentencing today, Monday September 19.
He was detained under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act to receive treatment. He was also made subject of a section 41 restriction order, which means he will not be discharged from hospital until the Ministry of Justice has agreed to his release.
