Nearly 130 firearms have been handed into Essex Police during a two week amnesty.
The majority were airguns.
During the 12-day campaign 129 firearms were handed along with 27 whole rounds of ammunition.
The items handed in include:
• 43 air weapons
• 32 blank or live firing pistols
• 7 live firing or replica revolvers
• 6 live firing rifles
• 41 full-length shot guns
Once the items were handed in to Essex Police, tests took place to find out about the history of the firearm and to identify whether or not it had previously been used in a crime.
Approximately ten guns are likely to be submitted to the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NaBIS) for examination, with a further four possibly added to the NaBIS database.
The number of firearms handed in surpasses the 124 items that were surrendered during Essex Police’s previous campaign in October 2014.
