Firefighters were called to a house fire in Blackmore, Ingatestone, and on arrival reported that the first floor and roof were alight.
The owner of the house was at work at the time of the fire and on discovery that there was an incident at her house she became distressed that her brother might be inside. Our control calmed her down over the phone and reassured her that our crews were on scene and that she should continue to drive carefully while she made her way home.
Crews reported that no one was inside the property and worked to extinguish the fire by 12.25pm. They also worked with the Electricity Board and Gas Board to isolate power to the property. Crews continued to work into the afternoon to check for hotspots and make the scene safe.
The house is so badly damaged that an investigation gave undetermined results to the cause of the fire, though it is thought that a electrical fault was to blame.
The house is badly damaged and no longer habitable.
