The Chelmsford Chieftains popped the Champagne corks last night as they defeated Streatham Redhawks 6-3 at Riverside Ice and Leisure, to claim their 5th successive NIHL Division 1 South League Championships.
After the beating of 2nd placed Invicta Dynamos in Medway on Saturday they knew that a win last night would secure the championship with six games still remaining. Things didn’t go to plan as they went into the first period break trailing 0-2, but coach Sean Easton team talk sparked his team into action and three goals in the first four minutes of the 2nd period gave the Chieftains the momentum required to both win the game and trophy which is yet to find it’s way to the City.
As the buzzer sounded at 60 minutes the players threw gloves into the air and the celebration started. So is it time for a rest now the jobs done? No way the lads will be back in training looking to keep the winning going as important cup and play-off fixtures are on the horizon.
