Swimmers across Tendring are being urged to take the plunge to support Swimathon 2017.
Events are being staged at pools at Clacton Leisure Centre (CLC), Dovercourt Bay Lifestyles (DBL) and Walton on the Naze Lifestyles (WONL) – and it is time to sign up.
The Tendring District Council (TDC) run sites take part every year with thousands of pounds raised for Marie Curie UK to help people living with terminal illnesses and their families.
There are individual challenges of 1.5kms, 2.5kms, and 5kms as well as distances of 1.5km and 5kms for teams.
CLC will be offering the choice of two days to take part – Friday April 7 from 6pm to 10pm and Saturday April 8 from 2pm to 6pm.
At WONL there is a choice of either Friday April 7 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm and Sunday April 9 from 1pm to 4pm.
DBL is staging its challenge on Saturday April 8 from 1pm to 6pm.
Lynda McWilliams, TDC’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Health and Wellbeing, said that this year is a special occasion as Swimathon celebrates its 30th birthday.
“The Council’s pools always support this very good cause which raises a terrific amount of money nationally,” she added. “It also encourages people to get active and promote a healthier lifestyle at the same time.”
Those aged under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Anyone wanting more information or wanting to sign up should do so at www.swimathon.org and then put in the details of the site they want to attend.
