Police are appealing to the public for help in tracking the driver of a car which struck another vehicle, containing a young baby and its mother, before fleeing.
Officers from the West Operation Raptor team were carrying out stop checks in the Galleon Road area of Chafford Hundred at 11.30am on Wednesday May 2 when the incident happened.
On spotting the officers the driver of a silver Clio reversed out of the Galleon Road junction at speed striking a red Peugeot being driven by a young mum and containing her 11-month-old baby.
The occupant of the Clio, a man, then fled the scene.
The Clio was searched by officers and drugs and mobile phones were found inside.
Investigating officer DS Scott Fitzmaurice of the West Operation Raptor team said: “We would appeal to anyone in the local area who may know who has been using this car to contact us.
“It is only good fortune that no-one was injured and the driver of the Clio showed no regard for the young mum and her child in the vehicle they struck.
“We are now carrying out forensic work on the vehicle and it is only a matter of time before we arrest the person who was driving so we would uge them to hand themselves in at the earliest opportunity.”
Witnesses to the incident or anyone with information can contact DS Fitzmaurice at the West Operation Raptor team on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
