A global ranking of airports suggests four in the UK including Stansted are among the worst in the world.
AirHelp’s survey also puts Gatwick, Manchester and Edinburgh in the bottom ten.
It looked at punctuality, quality and service at 76 airports worldwide.
Singapore’s Changi came out top.
Meanwhile Stansted saw nearly 2.3 million passengers pass through the airport during May to set a new record high for the month, an increase of 7% over the same month in 2016 and beating the previous monthly high set just last year.
The most popular international markets during the period were Spain, Italy, Germany and Poland but the biggest year-on-year growth came from Denmark, Bulgaria and Cyprus.
In the 12 months ending May 2017, Stansted’s passenger numbers grew by 5.9% over the previous year with the moving annual total now standing at over 24.7 million.
Cargo volumes also reported strong growth during the period with nearly 23,000 tonnes passing through the specialist cargo facilities, an increase of nearly 11% over May last year. The annual total rose to over 256,000, up 3.8% over the previous 12 months.
Stansted Airport CEO, Andrew Cowan said:
“The strong growth in passenger traffic at the start of the summer season continued in May as we welcomed nearly 2.3 million to Stansted, up 7% on 2016 and more passengers for the month than in any previous year.
“As we head into the main summer period we expect this trend to be maintained with the number of flights already scheduled by our airline partners across the peak months up by around 10% over last summer.
“During May we saw the arrival of another two new airlines as BMI Regional began a twice daily service to the City of Derry and Arkia Israeli Airlines launched flights to Tel Aviv, and in the coming months we will also see Stansted pass the 25 million passengers a year for the first time ever, another milestone achievement for the airport.
“With passengers clearly wanting to fly from their local airport and take advantage of the 180 destinations on offer, we continue to plan how we meet future passenger growth, add vital capacity and invest in our facilities to provide the best customer experience.”
