Following an incident in Billericay where two cows escaped from their field, the farmer has confirmed that one cow is still unaccounted for.
Due to the risk that one of the cows posed to members of the public, a decision was reached that the animal should be humanely dispatched.
As there have been no further sightings of the second cow, it can be assumed it is currently in a rural location.
If anyone sees a cow in the Billericay or Stock area, which is brown and has horns, in a location which appears out of place, please do not approach it, but instead inform the police on 101, quoting incident 640 of 12 June.
Essex Police will then inform the farmer who will attempt to recapture the animal.
Superintendent Nick Morris said: “We tried, along with the farmer, everything we could to capture one of the animals but it became increasingly distressed, aggressive, and unpredictable.
“The safety of the public is paramount and officers were forced to humanely destroy it.”
