55 drivers in Southend have been caught not wearing a seatbelt.
A dedicated traffic operation from Essex Police also stopped eight people for using a mobile phone while at the wheel.
A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs as well as driving whilst disqualified and without valid insurance. He was released pending further enquiries.
Three drivers were found to be driving without valid insurance and each driver had their car seized under Section 165.
Matt Hine, Operational Tasking Supervisor at the Casualty Reduction Section, said: “We carry out these operations regularly in different towns and villages across the county and it always shocks me to see those that drive without wearing a seatbelt and whilst using their mobile phones.
“Not only do these drivers put their own lives at risk but they also put the lives of others at risk – a risk that is easily avoided.”
