Detectives are investigating a burglary in which war medals and sentimental letters and photographs were stolen.
Burglars broke into a house in Church Road, Shoeburyness, sometime between 9.15am on Monday, August 31 and 9.15am on Tuesday, September 1.
They had smashed a back door and also broke into a shed.
The Second World War medals stolen were the 1939–1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Arctic Star, Italy Star, Burma Star, veteran’s medal and Ushakov medal.
Personal photos, letters and some money were among other items taken.
Dc Donna Hindle, of Rayleigh CID, said: “The victim is aged in his 90s and while the items have little monetary value, they are of enormous sentimental value.
“I am keen to hear from witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time, or from anybody who has been offered the items for sale.”
