An investigation’s underway into the finances at Southend Hospital.
Last year, the Trust – which had a deficit of almost 10 million pounds – was ordered to improve the way it keeps track of its costs.
But, the Health watchdog Monitor is stepping in after a further inspection found there’d been little progress.
Toby Lambert, Pricing Director at Monitor, told Radio Essex:
“Providers should be using accurate information to make day-to-day management and operational decisions about the service they provide to patients.
“Good quality cost and activity information should be crucial to day-to-day decision-making by healthcare providers. It also helps us set national prices in a way that delivers the highest amount of care for the money spent.”
No decision has yet been made on whether there will be any fiurther regulatory action against the hospital.
