Twenty drivers have been caught using hand held mobile phones behind the wheel during a police operation in Harlow.
Other offences included motorists not wearing seatbelts and driving without valid MOT certificates and insurance.
Officers from the Casualty Reduction Section led the road safety operation in partnership with the Safer Essex Roads Partnership to help reduce motoring offences and detect criminals on the county s roads.
Offenders were identified by officers patrolling in cars and on motorcycles and through Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology before being escorted to a check site off of junction seven of the M11.
One driver was spotted failing to stop for a red traffic light and another was found to be driving a vehicle that was over the legal weight limit.
Three drivers were given roadside eyesight tests.
