A carer who stole £57,000 from an elderly woman is beginning a 15 month prison sentence.
Alliah Howe of Fleetwood Avenue, Clacton was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on April 1, 2016 having pleaded guilty to theft and fraud.
The 20-year-old was working as a carer to an elderly man in Frinton when she stole his wife s bank card and manipulated her account on a number of occasions between September and November 2015.
Howe transferred cash into her own account and used it to pay off her debts and treat herself to meals with friends, clothes and new furniture for her home.
In October 2015 she also attempted to seek finance on the account to buy a £30,000 Mercedes car but was declined.
Howe s 89-year-old victim was living in a residential care home at the time of the offences and had no access to her account.
Howe was arrested in November 2015 and later charged with theft and fraud.
Dc Darren Herbet from the Serious Economic Crime Unit said: “Alliah Howe is a thoroughly dishonest individual who abused her position of trust as a care worker to remove money from an elderly woman s account for her own gain.
“She took advantage of the victim being in poor health and away from the family home to steal in excess of £57,000 to clear her debts and lead a lavish social life.
