Police have launched an investigation after a man was shot in Stanford Le Hope.
Officers were contacted shortly before 7pm last night with reports that a man driving a silver Ford Transit van had been shot while he was sat in his vehicle at the junction of London Road and Stanford Road.
He’s been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are believed to be life-changing but not life-threatening.
The suspect is reported to have been driving a silver Mercedes C-class saloon vehicle which drove off at speed in the direction of the Orsett Cock roundabout.
Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Al Pitcher told Radio Essex: “The scene of this incident has been cordoned off while we carry out a forensic examination of the location and house to house enquiries.
“At that time of night there would have been a lot of people, including motorists heading home, in this area and we would appeal for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“We have been carrying out searches of the area and the police helicopter has also been assisting.
“We believe the victim to be a man in his 50s who is from the Stanford Le Hope area. The motive for the attack has not been established.”
