A senior councillor in Southend has been forced to withdraw comments he made about fellow politicians.
During a stormy ocuncil meeting, Martin Terry – an Independent – accused UKIP of being linked to extremist groups and vowed not to stand with them at this year’s Rememberance service.
But, he now says that’s not true.
The full statement is below:
Statement regarding comments at Full Council on 20 October 2016
At Council on 20 October 2016 Councillor Terry (Independent) made a statement about the Southend UKIP Group.
He subsequently indicated that he would not stand alongside the two members of the UKIP Group on the Southend-on-Sea Borough Council at the Remembrance Service.
Councillor Terry now accepts that neither the Southend UKIP Group, nor either of its members has any links with extremist groups or sympathise with their extremist views. Accordingly he will not stand apart from members of the Southend UKIP Group at the Remembrance Service.
