A family`s been threatened with a screwdriver during a robbery at their home in Wickford.
The incident happened at the house in Grovelands Road on Wednesday.
Jewellery and cash were stolen.
The couple’s toddler and young child were in the house at the time.
No arrests have been made.
Detective Inspector Jennifer Payne, from Basildon CID, said: “The individuals smashed their way into this family’s home and used the threat of violence against their children in order to find out where their jewellery and cash was kept.
“It was a horrifying incident which has left the family incredibly shaken. The husband was hit with the butt of a screwdriver and left with a small cut to the neck. Thankfully, no other member of the family was physically injured.
“We have been working round the clock since the incident was reported to ensure the welfare of the victims, and our enquiries are progressing.
“The men wore masks and so we do not have specific descriptions, but would like to hear from anyone who we haven’t already spoken to, who thinks they may have some useful information.
“This is clearly a shocking incident, and we believe the burglary was targeted. We have had no other similar reports in Wickford and we’re doing everything we can to find those responsible.
