Southend Borough Council will discuss plans to help settle Syrian Refugees in the town later.
The area’s already welcomed two families from the war-torn country since 2016 – now plans are in place to allow 30 more refugees to relocate.
As part of work with the Home Office and Local Government Association – the project would find accommodation – but also look to identify befrienders within the community.
Church Groups and Private Sector organisations will be contacted to identify housing – rather than using council stock.
Councillors will vote on the proposal at the cabinet meeting today.
