Essex Police says arrests during its summer anti-drink and drug driving campaign nearly doubled year on year.
2,050 drivers were stopped between 14th June and 15th July – 205 were arrested.
109 were held on suspicion of drink driving, 78 for drugs offences and 18 for not providing a specimen.
The total is also up on Christmas – when 148 were arrested.
A spokesperson says the offence is totally unacceptable – and they’ll continue to come down hard on offenders.
