Conmen posing as police in Basildon have scammed an elderly woman out of thousands of pounds and jewellery.
The 79-year-old was called in August by a man claiming to be a London-based detective – he told her suspects with bank cards in her name had been arrested.
He then told her that her bank accounts were being targeted – and that she should withdraw a four figure sum of cash – as well as handing over jewellery for safe keeping.
A second man posing as a courier then called at her home to take the items – which haven’t been seen since.
Officers say police will never ask for personal bank details – and if in any doubt or suspicion – hang up a call and contact them.
