Andrew and Tristan Tate held in 'solitary confinement' in US jail, lawyer claims

Andrew and Tristan Tate are being held in "solitary confinement" following their arrest in Miami, their lawyer claims.

Joe McBride, who is representing the controversial social media influencers, said in a post on X on Sunday that the brothers were being held in a "5x12 cell as political prisoners on American soil, in solitary confinement".

The brothers were arrested in the US on Saturday and taken into custody after the UK issued an extradition request.

UK authorities have brought 38 new charges against the brothers, who, Mr McBride said, will face court "first thing" on Monday.

Andrew, 39, has been charged with seven further counts of rape and several trafficking and assault offences, while Tristian, 38, is charged with two counts of rape, sexual assault and trafficking offences.

Mr McBride said their arrest was "un-American and unconscionable", warning that when "American citizens can be caged for their politics, every single one of you is next".

"They are also being hunted by a despotic UK government that wants to bury them in a foreign prison for the rest of their lives," he said.

"We met with them today. They are dressed in orange jumpsuits like Al Qaeda terrorists at Guantanamo Bay. Two innocent men, charged with nothing in America, dressed like enemy combatants."

He continued his strongly worded warning about the erosion of free speech, and added: "Mark my words, today it is Andrew and Tristan.

"Tomorrow it will be Trump.

"Then it will be you."

Mr McBride shared an image that appeared to be an AI-generated depiction of the brothers together in a cell wearing orange prison jumpsuits.

Andrew has also been charged with offences relating to "indecent images of a child and extreme pornography".

The UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it would bring ​more charges against the brothers after it identified four additional alleged victims.

The CPS said the 38 additional charges, in addition to 21 existing charges, relate to alleged offences between July 2010 and August 2017.

The new charges are based on evidence compiled by Bedfordshire Police.

The previous charges were connected to alleged offences that took place between 2012 to 2016 and involved three alleged victims.

The US Marshals Service took the brothers, who rose to notoriety for their prominence in the manosphere, into custody on a sealed warrant.

The brothers have denied allegations of sexual abuse and trafficking, claiming that violent and misogynistic statements have been taken out of context or intended as jokes.

The pair - who are dual UK and US nationals - are expected to appear before a magistrate judge in Miami on Monday.

Bail is rarely granted to those held for international extradition, and Mr McBride said he expects they will remain jailed for the time being.

In the coming weeks, a US district judge will consider whether they meet the conditions for extradition.

The ultimate decision about whether to order the extradition will fall to US secretary of state Marco Rubio.
