Family of GP found dead at home pay tribute to 'kind and loving' mother

The family of a GP who was found dead at home in Norfolk has paid tribute to her "kind, generous and loving" nature.

The body of Hannah Cain - known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry - was found at her home in the village of Dersingham on Sunday.

In a tribute, her family said: "We are devastated by the loss of our beautiful Hannah.

"She was kind, generous and loving; a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend."

They added: "We are incredibly proud of the woman she was and of the great care she took of all her patients who knew her as Dr Terry.

"We would ask people to respect our privacy at this difficult time."

Dr Cain's husband, Mark Cain, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court earlier on Wednesday charged with her murder.

He spoke only to state his name, address and date of birth, and was not asked to enter a plea.

The ambulance service contacted the police at 2.25am on 4 October, prosecutor Jacqui Hanlon told the court.

She said Dr Cain was unconscious and not breathing when she was found in an upstairs bedroom.

A post-mortem examination "noted blunt force injury to the right side of her head had been inflicted", and that the injury "could be suggestive of compression of the neck", the court was told.

Cain, 45, was remanded in custody by District Judge Matthew Bone and will appear in court again at King's Lynn Crown Court on Thursday.

The 45-year-old doctor was part of the practice team at nearby Grimston Medical Centre and had been a qualified doctor for more than 15 years and a GP for eight.

Dr Cain described herself as a "caring and professional doctor" who also ran a cosmetics business.

A note on the practice's website said it was temporarily closed "due to extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team".

Her family's home is just over a mile from Sandringham House in Norfolk, one of the royal residences of the King and Queen.
